Ed Kainyek

Jazz • Blues • Pop • Soul

BIOGRAPHY

A local legend on the Manchester jazz scene, Ed cites Dexter Gordan, Charlie Parker, Joe Henderson, Phil Woods and Grover Washington as key influences on his playing, although his sound is truly his own, and with each solo he makes his own statement.

As the house band at the Salford Kings Arms and, more recently, the Indigo Bar Jazz Jam, his jazz quartet has built up strong musical relationships and versatility. Their Manchester Jazz Festival show juxtaposed Grover Washington Junior and pop/soul tunes alongside his own compositions and those by Tom Harrell, showing a different side to Ed's idiosyncratic taste.

As a session player, Ed is extremely versatile, and is comfortable playing Latin or funk just as he is playing jazz and blues. Ed can also bring a vocalist and extra horn player(s) (woodwind / trombone / trumpet) should the occasion demand.
